  • Academy Of Arts, Architecture And Design - Prague, Czech Republic

    Náměstí Jana Palacha 80 — 116 93 Praha 1 — Prague

In 1885, the School of Decorative Arts [Uměleckoprůmyslová škola, UPŠ] was founded in Prague in the spirit of the ideas of Gottfried Semper. At the time of its founding, the School was the first and only state art school in the Czech lands. Its building was constructed in 1882-1885 based on a design by František Schmoranz the Younger and Jan Machytka. Originally, the School of Decorative Arts used only one wing of the building on the Aleš Embankment, while the wing facing the square was occupied by the Painting Academy. The architecture of the building was inspired by Renaissance Italian palaces, but its direct influences were the art academies in Paris and Vienna. The purpose of the building is revealed by its two studio windows as well as the sculptural decorations – the façade bears the names of great artists of Renaissance and Baroque, and, in significant places, it is decorated by copies of Renaissance sculptures and sculptures of Classical Antiquity – Venus de Medici, Venus Urania, Dancing Satyrs and Michelangelo's Dusk and Dawn. In the interior, the original painting decoration survived in the exhibition h... Náměstí Jana Palacha 80 116 93 Praha 1 Phone: 420 251 098 119 Website: http://www.vsup.cz/

  • Academy Of Fine Arts In Katowice

    37 Raciborska Street — 40-074 — Katowice

The Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice was established on 1 September 2001. It derived from experience and tradition of artistic education in Silesia, after 54 years of being a Branch of Fine Art Academy in Kraków. Its foundation was a crowning achievement of the efforts of many generations of artists and people involved in cultural life of the region. The first attempts aiming at establishing an independent artistic university (Aleksander Gierymski’s School of Painting and Drawing in Katowice, 1936-1939) were shattered by the World War II. In 1946 Katowice Department of State School of Arts in Wrocław was established, which was incorporated into Fine Arts Academy in Kraków in 1952. For 50 years this Silesian school built its own tradition within the famous Academy in Kraków, first as a Graphic Art Department, and then as a Katowice Branch. It co-created one of the first centres of graphic arts and graphic design in Poland. Many distinguished artists can be found among the first professors and founders of the school: Aleksander Rak, Józef Mroszczak, Rafał Pomorski, Leon Dołżycki, Bogusław górecki, Stanisław Gawron, Roman Starak – painters and graphic artists. And so the identity of this artistic school was shaped – a school where specialised skills in the domain of graphic arts and graphic design were formed on the basis of classic drawing and painting workshop, and where the recent years enriched this consolidated identity with a special atmosphere marked by a digital revolution.

  • Academy Of Media Arts Cologne

    Peter-Welter-Platz 2 — D-50676 — Köln

The Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) was established in 1990. It offers an educational concept, which is the only one of its kind in Germany, that brings together the fields of film, art and theory in one degree course: “Media and Fine Art”. As such the KHM is an art school with a focus on media, and a film school with a focus on art. Teaching encourages concurrent engagement with various arts so that students gain knowledge in a wide range of manual skills and artistic disciplines. Study is supported through interdisciplinary supervision by professors, artistic and academic staff and technicians. This practiseoriented study is supplemented by seminars in the field of theory. The ateliers, studios and labs of the KHM where the students work are equipped with high quality equipment, reflecting the diversity of the fields of study and current developments in media technology. The KHM grants a diploma degree in media and fine arts or a doctors degree. The Academy of Media Arts Cologne diploma is comparable to a MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree. The number of students at the KHM has levelled off at around 60 newcomers per winter semester and an average of around 340 students in each year. They are supervised by a teaching staff of around 30 professors, 20 artistic and academic staff, 20 technicians and approximate 40 additional members of staff. This also prepares the ground for the building of networks and activities in the broad field of arts and media that students work in after graduating. This field ranges from successful film directors, cinematographers, scriptwriters to artists, programmers, designers and producers, working both independently and in collectives.
